Wordsworth’s Residential Treatment Facility

Wordsworth’s Residential Treatment Facility recognizes its place and responsibility in the continuum of care to children and their families. This program provides a structured residential environment that encourages cooperation and promotes successful experiences as a foundation for building self-confidence and motivating personal growth. This environment also fosters constructive personal change through nurturing adult-child relationships and the provision of success and self-esteem building activities. Individualized interventions, constructive supervision, therapeutic recreation and the maintenance of an ongoing proactive living environment also contribute to the success of the program.

Client Focus
The primary objective of Wordsworth’s Residential Treatment Facility is to assist the child in identifying and mastering goals necessary for the successful reunification of the family unit. Expectations are clearly defined, and techniques are employed that enable the child to perform the necessary skills and behaviors consistent with their desired goals. Strong emphasis is placed in the child’s role on the control of behavior.

Clinical Professionals
Wordsworth’s team of professionals include Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Therapists, Admissions Coordinators, Case Managers, Therapeutic Recreational Staff, Program Coordinators, Education and Nursing Staff. Team meetings are held daily and focus on reviewing the overall progress of specific children in accordance with placement goals and maintaining an environment consistent with CASSP Principles. To assure the safety of every child, Wordsworth exceeds state staffing requirements. The Training Department has developed an ongoing staff training program that provides ninety hours of training to each staff member annually.

Family Involvement
Wordsworth recognizes the importance of continued family support to ensure a successful outcome for every child. The Family Service Plan proves to be a valuable resource and encourages active family involvement in the reunification process. As part of the plan, family members visit or therapeutic home leave is arranged by the Clinical Department with their child as outlined in the Family Service Plan and/or the Individual Service Plan. Visits are coordinated during day, evening and weekend hours by the assigned Therapist. Therapy services are also offered to all residents and include individualized, group and family therapy as needed. Siblings and extended family members are also encouraged to maintain contact and involvement with the child during placement. Through organized and consistent structure, each residential unit is an integral part of the overall community in which the child and staff work, play and learn together. There is a cooperative atmosphere for the benefit of all, where the social climate is one of mutual respect. In this “family” atmosphere, the staff and the child form positive, caring relationships, which are the basis of positive change. Staff teaches and models positive discipline and problem solving. Enjoyable and meaningful therapeutic activities also ensure success, improve self-esteem and lead to reachable goals for the group and the individual child.

The Animal assisted Therapy and Nature Education Program
The Residential Treatment Facility incorporates both of these unique therapies. They have proven to be a powerful tools for inspiring learning, reaching children who have historically not responded well to traditional teaching and treatment methods, and establishing relationships based on trust. One of the most important aspects of this program is to provide the clients opportunities to nurture and be nurtured.

Education
Wordsworth’s STARS Program provides the educational instruction for many of the children who live in the Residential Treatment Facility. There are up to twelve students per class. The classrooms are separated by academic level and age and are staffed with a Special Education Teacher and a Mental Health Technician, who serves as the teacher’s assistant. Students may attend local public schools or pursue vocational interests as appropriate.

Wordsworth Commitment
Wordsworth Residential Treatment Facility consistently continues to enhance the continuum of care offered to its children and families. Wordsworth is confident that it can exceed the expectations of families and providers. Because Wordsworth continuously seeks ways of improving its programs, comments are welcome.
