Consultation and Education |
 |
| Wordsworth’s Consultation and Education (C&E) Program is a voluntary service offered to families within a specific school. It is a collaboration between the School District of Philadelphia and the Department of Human Services. The program is designed to ensure that children at-risk for behavioral health issues gain access to appropriate community based resources. There are two types of Wordsworth Consultation and Education Specialists: the Specialist that actually works within identified schools and those whose primary locale is the neighborhood truancy courts.
The C&E Specialist in the schools assist the parents and/or caregivers and the school to obtain mental health, social and educational services. The C&E Specialist provides outreach services to the children and their families. The mission of the C&E Specialist is to maintain the continuity of care by ensuring that student’s needs are met. The Specialist provides “immediate, direct and individualized assistance to individual families to help them address whatever challenges that may be inhibiting them in offering their children an affirmative, supportive environment for physical and emotional growth - and to do it early in order to prevent the development of more severe problems.”
Additionally, the C&E Specialist provides training for parents/caregivers and educators. Topics include: Understanding the child’s behavioral problems, developing resources to help children, learn how to work with your child’s development, homework tips and stress management. The C&E services are available to any child within the school regardless of ability to pay or insurance status. It is not necessary for the child to have a mental health diagnosis. |

Family Involvement
The main goals for the family and/or caregivers is to assist in the creation of a nurturing environment where success can be gained. This includes providing written permission for their children to receive services, meet with the C&E Specialist to discuss concerns and assist the C&E Specialist with the development of a Plan of Care, which will describe the services that will be provided to the child and the goals for the child’s progress
