Students from Wordsworth Academy traveled to Harrisburg to show their support for animal rights bills that are currently going through state congress. The students met with Senator Art Haywood to share their thoughts about the bills and why they support them. Senator Haywood was gracious and patient and allowed our students time to share the posters they made. Students and staff met Libre, the Dog responsible for HB 1238, AKA Libre’s Law, who had been starved and mistreated on a farm in Lancaster, Alladin who was an abused pit bull, and Wyatt the black lab who suffered severe spinal injuries leaving him paralyzed. The group gathered with legislators and Humane rights advocates on the steps of the capital for a photo. This advocacy is something students and staff hope to continue to participate in every year. Next, the students will now be writing letters and emailing the legislators they met to help push these important bills along.
